A friend of mine has a little girl named Emma. My Evelyn and Emma were born mere days apart back in 2005, so this story hits me hard.

My friend noticed a 'bump' near Emma's ribcage maybe a few weeks ago. She decided to bring Emma to our clinic and have this bump checked out. Not exactly sure how everything unfolded except that Emma was diagnosed with CANCER-Emma wasn't even 3 years old! My friend, her husband and Emma were sent up to OU (Oklahoma) Medical Center to find what the course of treatment would be. Last week, Emma had surgery to remove the mass thought to be Wilms' Tumor, and the kidney the cancer was in. Here is what I found on the internet about Wilms' Tumor:

Wilms' tumor is a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children. Also known as nephroblastoma, it's the most common malignant tumor of the kidneys in children. The peak time of Wilms' tumor occurrence is at age 3, and it occurs only rarely after age 8.
Wilms' tumor may arise in either or both kidneys.

Pathology would then show that this cancer was a Stage 3, and that Emma is facing 30 weeks of chemotherapy, with a radiation treatment somewhere in the middle of those 30 weeks.

Would you join with me in lifting up this family for strength, and peace as they travel down this uncertain road. Lift up sweet Emma (who by the way is 3 today!!) that the pain is so minimal that she will not know she is sick, and pray that our Lord will lay His hands on Emma and heal her of this cancer.
